Fences

Personal Reflection

Michael:  I thought that the book Fences was a very good book.  It was written very well and had me hooked right away at the beginning.  Troy always was telling stories about something that happened in his life.  These would keep me attentive and it would make me try to find out what his next story was.  I would have to keep reading to find out if I guessed right.  One of the best stories that Troy tells is when he talks about how he fought against Death for 3 days straight and barely one.  At the end of that story it says I through his sythe at the end of the battle but I am always a where that he is watching me and wait to beat me, but I will not lose with out a fight.  This made me think that something later in the book is going to happen which made me get through the the book.  Overall I would give this book a 9 out of 10 it is very interesting but at times it gets really boring.

Claire: I thought that the book Fences was very well written. In the beginning i thought i wouldn't like it because I thought it would be all about baseball but turns out it had a lot more context to it and i overall enjoyed it. My favorite part of the book was when Rose would tell Troy that he was too caught up in the past. I like this part because i think that overall it changed Troy as a person through out the rest of the book. In the end i would rate this book a 8 because majority of the time it caught my attention but there were some really boring parts also.

: I thought the book Fences by August Wilson was a quality book.  From the begining I thought I would like this book, I had heard it was about baseball and that atrackted me to this book.  but in the end it was a lot more then just baseball.  In this book there was a great story about a family with a dad Troy, that had troubles supporting his family and was caught up in the past.  There was his son Cory, that was a great athlete and wanted to go far with sports, but his father did not support his desition.  The mother Rose, was a loving mom that only wanted the best for her child, she wanted him to play football, but she did not have the power to change Troy's opinion on the matter.  I thought this was a great story that many people can relate to.  there were many twists and turns that always kept you interested in the book and wanting to read more.  I would rate this book a 9 out of 10 because it did a good job of keeping me interested and thinking, but at some points the book got really slow.
